It’s very exciting to watch as African designers and showcases gain momentum and the limelight finally focusing on Africa. Judging from the amazing creations at African Fashion week in Johannesburg earlier last week, it’s becoming more and more apparent that African designers have evolved and come of age.  I can already envision some of the collections showcased in department stores around the world.

South Africa’s Darryl Jagga is arguably one of Africa’s most seasoned designers owing to stints at household designer houses like Clavin Klien and Chaiken. With extensive experience as a designer and living in fashion capitals, it’s predictable that Darryl’s collections are diverse and influenced by art and architecture from around the world. Darryl’s penchant for dress is evident in his label, 4346aggaj,(the numbers 43, 46 are the birth years of his parents) which primarily encompasses  feminine pieces dipped in details of eclectic patterns and geometric shapes.  At African Fashion Week, later this month, Darryl’s concentration of superbly executed details of pleats, drapes, tucks and gathers  is anticipated to elevate classic dresses to graceful chic(and leave me drooling!). Go Africa!
