In anticipation of scorching heat I paired the pencil skirt with a flowly sheer floral top. I almost didn’t post the accidental flash (last pic) but since watching Carrie Bradshaw (thank the good Lord for Carrie Bradshaw) on SATC brazenly spotting a top that displays her bra, I have come the conclusion that we can make any fashion faux pass work…. And the importance of investing in really good underwear. That is all.

I am at day 4 of the roll, tuck and pin natural hair styling challenge. Of course I have to push myself because styling has never been by forte but I am determined to see the challenge through to day 30. Check out the styles posted so far here. Thanks for stopping by!

For a shoe enthusiast (and perhaps a shoe designer in the making) it was awesome hear the legendary Stuart Weitzman share the journey and evolution of his brand. Stuart Weitzman learned shoe-making basics from father, Seymour, who operator a shoe-factory in Massachusetts. His dad ventured into making shoes after marrying a glamorous model (Stu’s mom) whom he wanted to keep that way.

Notable mentions include the infamous ruby and the “Millionairess” shoes that are among the world’s most expensive shoes ever made.

The ruby shoes featured 642 round and oval Indian rubies, totaling more than 120 carats. The ruby shoes are estimated to be worth USD $1.25 million. The Millionairess were worn by Laura Harring to the Academy awards. They featured 464 diamonds. And yes, they are estimated to be worth USD $1 million

I found Stuart to be charming and very personable (he sold me on saving for a pair of SW’s). And he graciously lent me starter advise should I chose to pursue shoe designing in the future.

This event was organized by the National American Jewish Museum. The presentation, named “dreamers”, seeks to highlight Jewish American stories of passion, visions and courage.

Pants: Forever 21 | Blouse: H&M | Heels: Toi Market (Nairobi)

One of my many favorite things about these pants is the tuxedo stripe. I think it’s perfectly understated masculinity against the very feminine floral detailing. The detailing while very dominant is cleverly created in black and white which essentially makes these pants a neutral piece that can be paired with anything, really!

These peachy pumps are one of three pairs of shoes nabbed at Toi market for Kes. 250 (usd 3). I’m a total advocate of shopping smart and from my observation we have goldmines of affordable style in Nairobi. I found so much at Toi market that it was impossible to bring it all back and remain within reasonable luggage weight. Probably half of the stuff came from the US in the first place. Isn’t that ironic?

In the interest of acting my wage, I could not spend $700 on the Givenchy Rottweiler tees or jumpers so you can imagine my delight at discovering something similar and affordable. Gotta love Ebay! This outfit reflects the appealing majesty and visciousness of a Rottweiler. In reality this breed is among the most aggressive guard dogs yet it is also exceptionally temperate with it’s owner. Similarly, this outfit is gallant and daring(especially with the green heels)but it also has a pleasant allure to it.

As previously blogged (here), the new dramatic take on the pencil skirt is definitely a yay! in my book.

Today marks day 3 of the roll, tuck n’ pin May challenge. Here’s a pic of day 1. The goal of the challenge is to motivate those of us stressed when it comes to styling natural hair. Roll, pin n’ tuck is a no fuss styling technique because there are no tools except simple bobby pins. You literally just roll, tuck and pin the hair as you like. I will be sharing all my styles on my natural hair blog (it crushed but I am working on fixing it.)

Tim Gunn swears by one animal print at a time. On the other hand, June Ambrose’s approach is to break the rules and mix different moods. It sounds like these two gurus have colliding style ideas but I did both (successfully, I hope) with this outfit. See…ye can serve two masters!

Someone asked if I had the sneakers custom made. I said yes, basked in the mini glory for 5 then watched them gasp after revealing the sneakers cost only $32 from GoJane. She purchased them right then and thanks to IPhone magic. And oh yeah, she fainted when I mentioned the dress was $20. I kid. But the dress was actually 20 bucks. Style doesn’t have to cost the proverbial arm, leg or kidney. Perhaps just a toenail when you try to squeeze into ill fitting shoes because they are simply gorgeous yet non existent in your size. That’s acceptable.

The skinny strappy sandal of the 90’s was thrust back into the limelight thanks to Carrie Bradshaw prancing around NYC in her Manolo Blahnik’s in Sex & The City. The gladiator craze displaced this barely there sandal almost as soon as the show ended. But like everything fashion, the single strap sandal seems to slowly be creeping back as the must have all purpose go-to shoe. They are not exactly the most comfortable style — and an immaculate pedicure is non-negotiable in order to wear them but strappy barely there sandals are the shoe of SS ’13 (and well in to Fall) spanning across all brands in the market place.

Typically strappy sandals are minimalistic but I prefer something with a little character hence the Zara strappy sandal is my favorite. The rugged sole is reminiscent of Camilla Skovgaard’s(whom I adore) signature style. Despite the black collage, there are plenty of SS strappy sandals options. Think pastels, brights, stripped and metallics.
